How can I tell if my roof is suitable for solar?
Typically, most roofs will be suitable for installing solar due to our Queensland weather conditions. However, there are a few considerations.
The best roof material to have solar panels installed on will usually be Colorbond, metal, or tiled. However, older, more fragile roofs can cause some difficulties in the installation process. Roofs containing asbestos will also need to have their sheets or tiles changed before installation.
Equipment like satellites, piping, air conditioning units, or antennas can cause issues with shading. Of course, trees are another issue entirely when it comes to shading.
The team at GreenGen Solar are experts in problem solving and can work with you to find unique installation solutions to overcome any of these issues.
How much energy will I save?
This will depend on the location of your home, the size of your roof, the size of the system we install, and the products you use to maximise your solar returns.
Our team is happy to discuss these options with you as well as your potential savings in our initial consultation.
How can I make sure I’m choosing quality solar panels and inverters?
Speak with a qualified and reputable solar panel retailer. Ask your solar company about your unique solar requirements, the quality of different products, and the warranty periods.

How long will installation take?
This will again depend on the size of the system and the complexity of the products used and the design we create with you.
Typically though, you can expect for your system to be installed within a day.
How long will it take to start seeing savings?
You can expect to experience energy savings from day one. You’ll have a Wi-Fi compatible inverter app configured with your solar panel installation. This will show you your energy savings in real-time.
How do I know if getting solar is a cost-effective investment?
Speak with a qualified and reputable solar panel retailer. We recommend making sure your solar company uses in-house electricians to ensure you receive a quality, cost-effective system.
Your solar panels will offer a better return if they’re installed correctly. By ensuring you partner with a local solar company with in-house electricians, you can avoid receiving a poor-quality installation.

What size system do I need?
This depends on your household’s power needs and current energy consumption. You’ll likely want to install a system large enough to offset your current energy use — whether this is possible will depend on the size of your roof.
What happens if it’s cloudy or my roof doesn’t get much sun?
Unfortunately, cloudy weather will have a negative effect on solar power production, as the clouds will reduce the amount of sunlight reaching your panels. With that being said, high quality solar panels are much better at collecting ambient light than others so they’re more effective under shaded or cloudy conditions.
Be sure to ask your solar installer if you are concerned about which types of panels are best for your location.
Luckily for us Queenslanders living in the sunshine state, there’s not too many cloudy days for you to worry about.
Can a solar power system affect my home’s resale value?
The value added will depend on the size of the solar panel installation. Typically, the more panels, the better the value add for your home. Estimates have shown a 5KW installation might add up to $29k to your property value.
